Our 2021 European Hardware Award Finalist! We’ve managed to push this build to the limit of performance while maintaining great value, and still providing exceptional looks. Built around AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X and NVIDIA’s GeForce 3600 Ti, the Tomahawk is specifically tuned to handle any workload with ease, in whisper-quiet operation while at the same time dazzling you with awesome RGB visuals.
The platform
We chose an AM4 B550 motherboard for its great feature-set and value. Gigabit LAN, 5.1 surround sound and USB 3.1, while industry standards at this point, cover most of what any gamer or professional would require from a feature perspective.
The CPU
AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X is a 6-core power-house, providing plenty of umph for any task at hand. Being the best all-rounder there is, with its 4.2 GHz max core frequency and 32 MB L3 cache, will care for the requirements of any demanding game or app you can throw at it.
The GPU
The NVIDIA GeForce 3060 Ti is a main-stream power-house with upgraded clocks! Still frugal on power, yet superior in performance to its next of kin, our choice of GPU is a perfect match for the 6-core CPU, making for an awesome team in both gaming and content creation.
The Memory
16 GB of DDR4 is a must as an entry-point for any demanding game or app. 3600 MHz working in dual-channel configuration, the Corsair sticks offer great reliability without compromising on performance.
The case
We use an ATX-sized enclosure with a minimalistic design for an unassuming look, but with plenty of cooling power, to keep the temperatures in check. RGB lighting is, as usual, standard, but makes the build look anything but that, setting apropriate ambiance for an uplifting visual experience.
The Storage
A 1 TB M.2 SSD is the obvious choice for a balanced gaming build. Strikingly-fast OS response and minimal load-times are guaranteed by PCIe interconnect and 3D NAND flash technologies. Mixing in a very efficient storage controller with a sizeable SLC cache, top performance is being sustained for prolonged workloads, so you can game for hours on end.
